CHC Homeschooling Success Story!

By the Harlow Family via CHC Message Board:  Our family has just finished a momentous week, and I would like to share a few of the details. This past Wednesday we put our son on a plane bound for Colorado Springs and the US Air Force Academy. This past fall he received a Congressional Nomination from our US Representative, and then in April found out that he had received the scholarship appointment to the Academy. His life long dream has been to fly, and ever since visiting the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in 7th grade, he has dreamed of combining that love of flying with a desire to protect and defend our nation.

I wanted to share a few of the ways Covenant Home has come along and supported us in the journey. Academics, especially reading, has been very tough for our son. During the early years with the Covenant Home staff encouraged me and offered suggestions in teaching a struggling learner. During the high school years our grade auditor offered great encouragement, support, insight and words of wisdom. She filled out special on-line forms that the academy needed from a "real teacher" and wrote the English teacher recommendation letter. In April when my son called to tell her of his appointment, she shared in the excitement and told him that he had been on her prayer list and this was truly such an incredible answer to prayer. The office staff has filled in on-line "school forms" as well as making sure the transcript included everything. I had forgotten to communicate with the office that Stew had passed his pilot's license, which they knew he had been working on. One day Jane called me to ask about this. She was preparing to send his first semester transcript to the Academy and thought a pilot's license would be important information to include. As a busy homeschooling mother, I had completely forgotten that detail. The application process for a military academy is such an enormous and overwhelming feat. Covenant Home has walked through the process with us each step of the way, and for that our family is truly grateful.

We give glory to God for the way in which He has providentially and faithfully guided us along the journey. We know He will be our son's anchor and refuge and strength in the difficult days ahead. Last week it was tough letting our son go, but also a moment filled with joy, knowing that God will use him for His honor and glory. Thanks for letting me share my heart.

Sincerely, The Harlow Family in MI
