Another Covenant Home Student Wins Scholarship!
Senior Feature: Calvin Whealton
Calvin Whealton, a senior in Covenant Home Curriculum has been an excellent student says Robin Boedeker, his grade auditor. "He and his sister, Virginia, before him, have set the standard," Boedeker added.
Calvin plans to attend Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. ODU is a public university with approximately 20,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Calvin plans to enter the Batten College of Engineering and Technology to study Civil Engineering.
Calvin's main activities have been with the Boy Scouts of America. He is an Eagle Scout and a chapter chief with the Order of the Arrow, Boy Scouting's National Honor Society. He plans and leads monthly meetings for youth and adult members and supervises regular service projects. Calvin has been awarded several scholarships through the Boy Scouts at both the state and local levels, as well as a $40,000 Dean's Scholarship from Old Dominion University.
Other than Boy Scouting activities, Calvin enjoys woodturning. He has studied classical guitar for six years and swims about three miles per week.
Calvin attends Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Norfolk, VA, and was a member of the church's summer mission team in 2002 and 2003.
The Whealton family has been with Covenant Home Curriculum since 1999, when their daughter, Virginia, began her 9th grade studies with the curriculum.
Virginia, 21, is a senior at Houghton College in Houghton, NY. She will graduate in May with a B. Mus. in violin performance. She plans to attend the Indiana University (Bloomington) for graduate studies in musicology.
