Covenant Home Student takes AP United States History AP History class in D.C.course

William Honaker, of Bonita, CA, enrolled this year in an Advanced Placement US History course, offered by PA Homeschoolers. The class consisted of eighteen students from all over the United States. Every week they were given a reading assignment, a quiz, primary documents to read, and either an essay, an interview, or an analysis of a political cartoon to complete. There were also daily discussions on the course’s homepage, and extra credit activities which included debates, reading assignments, reviewing historical films, and visiting historical places.

At the end of the course students were given the Advanced Placement exam. Passing the exam enables the student to earn college credit or advanced standing at many colleges, and opt out of introductory level classes. Many homeschool students seeking academic scholarships also have found the AP exams to be of significant help, as they provide a concrete way for others to guage their strong academic preparation. AP classes are all designed to be more challenging than typical high school classes - more reading, more study time, and more dedication are required.

View of D.C.William received a final grade of 98.8% for the online course, and finished fourth out of eighteen in the highly competitive extra credit standings. He and his father, together with three other students and their families, were able to meet their instuctor in Virginia and tour Washington D.C. They visited such places as the National Mall, the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Wall, the new Korean Memorial, the new World War II Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, and the Smithsonian Institute.

William has been recommended by his teacher for three more AP courses. He and his siblings have been with Covenant Home Curriculum since 1993, and he plans to graduate in the spring of next year. Congratulations, William, on a superior job!
